soupdust [süpdəst] :
noun *a four-piece Montreal-based band crafting their own reflective and contemplative sound within a creative and egoless atmosphere. Our songs evolve, distort, pick up, slow down, loose themselves and find their way again before dissolving into ether, or silence, or becoming sound once more.

Time signatures are explored, body and textures are added, melodies and counter riffs are set free, and something new is spawned: the soup of our collaborative efforts.
Details are easily overlooked and/or taken for granted. Such details are the particles that make up our own brand of music worth playing, and fun for us to play. How does it sound to others? Like it or hate it, it is ours to make and everyone is welcome to listen. It bears no pretension, nor does it make false promises, it does not try to sound like something else. We all have influences, they shape and influence what we play.
Simply put, our music is what it is. We are soupdust.

What’s in a name?

Four words sum up the band’s songwriting process: ALL SONGS BY SOUPDUST.

No one individual will get special credit for having written a song or for having come up with a solid riff that eventually became a song. It is the sum of everyone’s creative input that makes a particular song sound the way it does. We don’t buy into the whole "song by such and such, arrangements by the band" – type of philosophy. Everyone here deserves credit. In our minds, to do otherwise is to diminish the role and contribution of other band members to the musical project at hand. This is in no way meant to criticize how other bands award their song credits; to each their own. It is merely how we operate.

We are soupdust.
